Well. that's that, I suppose. There've been plenty of ups, and plenty of downs. Where exactly these final three episode lie on that spectrum remains to be truly seen; to say there's some debate would be an understatement. Personally, while it's far from perfect, I think there are far worse notes for a show to go out on.
"The Last Problem" had moments where everyone had grown up and moved on in the future. Here are some things I really wanted to see in the last episode of MLP:
- More older versions of the school ponies I know we saw older versions of Diamond Tiara, Silver Spoon, Twist, and possibly a few others, but I really wanted to see what Pipsqueak, Rumble, and/or Lily Longsocks looked like in the future.
A few months ago, I rewatched Season 9, and I liked it even better than the first time I saw it. There were still two episodes that I didn't care for: “3, 2, 1, Greaaat” and “Trivial Pursuit.” With both of those episodes, I went into them with the mindset that I would skip to the next episode when they started to annoy me. I only made it a few minutes into each episode.
The finale just has me thinking about everyone's ages in the future.
With the grey hair and lines under the mane six's eyes, they are clearly getting older.
The Crusaders and Cake twins are also both adults. The Cake twins seem to be running Sugarcube Corner.
In the present day of the show, the Crusaders are young enough where they can't travel without adults. Also, the older kids they meet in Growing Up Is Hard To Do seem to still not be in the 'older teen/young adult' territory.
Consider this an open letter of sorts, one from those of us who dwell on the spectrum and everyone else who have watched your world unfold over the course of a near-decade. This would have been written earlier, but I got a bit sidetracked. The intent remains the same though and that’s what counts.
Thought the last couple of years, I've become a man of fewer words. I'd like to think it's a sing of maturity rather than aging. I think things though a lot more. But also life has become more demanding outside my room, so I've also had to become more careful with my time.
Yet, I'd be someone else if I didn't say at least some word for the show's finale.
That seems to be the most important thing to me about the final. Will Twilight Sparkle get even bigger? Will she outshine Princess Celestia in size one day? And would Princess Celestia get mad and magically make herself bigger out of spite if that happens?
To be honest, this season has had many ups and downs, but it was just an okay season. Not great, not bad, just... okay. I'm not exactly thrilled that Grogar was Discord all along. While in hindsight, it was foreshadowed, I can't say it was a good idea. Though the stakes were raised with the other villains, i couldn't help but feel disappointed that Grogar wasn't the final threat like everyone wanted him to be.
It's weird to think that we won't get any more weekly reactions for FiM episodes. Granted, there's another movie in the works, as well as G5, but it won't be the same. Oh, well.

It seems like, judging by the dialogue of Rainbow Dash and Applejack discussing doing chores together, that they are married in the future. Discord and Fluttershy seem to be as well.
The only two confirmed foals are Lil Cheese and Big Mac/Sugar Belle's son.
